Google Speed UpdateGoogle have given us plenty of notice that they will be including mobile speed as part of their ranking criteria from July 2018.  We know that website speed has been important but Google has focused upon desktop website speed until now.

Google are calling this the “Speed Update” and are encouraging website owners to check how their website performs on mobile devices.  Websites which are particularly slow will be likely to be penalised in terms of dropping in their search result positions.  This is understandable as we all know how frustrating it is when a website takes forever to load.  This problem is worse for users who may be out and about and not be able to use a strong internet connection.

So now is the ideal time to check your website.   Here are some free tools that can help you

  • Chrome User Experience Report, a public dataset of key user experience metrics for popular destinations on the web, as experienced by Chrome users under real-world conditions
  • Lighthouse, an automated tool and a part of Chrome Developer Tools for auditing the quality (performance, accessibility, and more) of web pages
  • PageSpeed Insights, a tool that indicates how well a page performs on the Chrome UX Report and suggests performance optimizations

Or alternatively get in touch and we can discuss how your website can improved for mobile users and to satisify Google’s new Speed Update. Simple website design improvements, compression and other techniques can make a big difference to your website speed.    Please email us at hello@casemarketing.co.uk to find out more.
